The Clinical Trials Unit at Aga Khan University, in partnership with the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), organised a two-day symposium on Risk-Based Strategies Across the Clinical Trial Ecosystem on 15โ€“16 May 2026 to promote practical implementation of Risk-Based Trials across Pakistan.

Senior regulators, clinical researchers and industry stakeholders gathered to discuss proactive monitoring, quality-driven practices and innovative regulatory perspectives. Presentations and discussions focused on pragmatic steps to apply risk-based oversight in study design, monitoring and quality management.

The event was attended by Dr. Obaidullah, CEO DRAP, alongside Dr. Akhtar Abbas. In his keynote address, Dr. Obaidullah congratulated the Clinical Trials Unit on its appointment as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Clinical Trials and reaffirmed DRAPโ€™s commitment to strengthening an ecosystem that supports all stakeholders while fostering innovation, collaboration and ethical clinical research.

Speakers underlined that wider adoption of Risk-Based Trials can enhance participant safety, improve data quality and optimise resource use. Emphasis was placed on shifting from traditional oversight to targeted, risk-proportionate approaches that align regulatory expectations with operational realities in Pakistan.

Organisers described the symposium as an important forum for knowledge exchange and collective commitment to advancing high-quality, risk-based clinical trial practices. With the Clinical Trials Unitโ€™s new WHO Collaborating Centre status, stakeholders expect growing momentum toward implementing Risk-Based Trials across academic, regulatory and industry settings in the country.
