Senator Amir Walliuddin Chishti delivered the keynote address at the 58th convocation of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, an event that honoured 700 FCPS and MCPS specialists and was graced by Lieutenant General (R) Nigar Johar as chief guest. The senator congratulated the new specialists and praised their dedication and perseverance in pursuing excellence in the health professions.
In remarks acknowledging institutional leadership, Senator Chishti commended the President of CPSP, Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal, and the Council for organising a memorable ceremony. He described the CPSP convocation as a reflection of the college’s ongoing commitment to raising standards in postgraduate medical training.
The senator underscored CPSP’s role in promoting high quality medical education and strengthening healthcare delivery nationwide, expressing confidence that the institution will continue to advance higher medical education and provide quality service to humanity. He made clear that the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services is ready to support policies and initiatives that enhance the health sector.
Highlighting the Government of Pakistan’s focus on service delivery under Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Senator Chishti stressed the importance of extending comparable healthcare services to rural communities where the majority of the population lives. He noted ongoing efforts to upgrade district and tehsil hospitals and welcomed CPSP’s contributions toward these objectives.
Addressing concerns around medical entry testing, he emphasized transparency and fairness in the MDCAT process and pointed to this year’s absence of media reports of paper leaks as the result of six months of focused work to strengthen the exam. “My focus remains on ensuring that the MDCAT sets the highest standard for entrance testing in the country,” he said, reiterating the priority of merit and integrity in selection processes.
Senator Chishti also highlighted the link between a healthy, educated society and national development, urging the medical community to nurture talent and encourage professionals who can serve Pakistan’s health and education sectors. He concluded by expressing confidence that the newly certified specialists will make meaningful contributions to improving the nation’s health system.
