Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov praised Pakistan Peace Diplomacy during his meeting with Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed at the Eurasian Security Forum in Perm on 24 May, acknowledging Islamabad’s proactive efforts to promote a peaceful settlement between Iran and the United States.
Senator Mushahid, who serves as Co-Chairman of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties, briefed Lavrov on Pakistan’s sustained mediation efforts that have earned trust and confidence from both protagonists. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the forum and included ICAPP colleagues from Korea, Cambodia and Iran.
Lavrov referred to the new realities emerging from the Iran conflict and highlighted the growing significance of the Quartet comprising Pakistan, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. The Russian minister underscored how regional diplomacy is adapting as geopolitical fault lines shift, a development Mushahid echoed in his keynote address.
In his keynote, Senator Mushahid Hussain said Pakistan is at the centre-stage of global diplomacy, enjoying the trust, confidence and respect of both protagonists. He lamented the limited role of established multilateral organisations such as the UN, EU, OIC and the Arab League while commending the principled positions of China and Russia as catalysts of an emerging order in which Eurasia becomes the strategic centre of gravity in geoeconomics and geopolitics.
Addressing the assembled delegates, and noting the presence of an Indian delegation, Mushahid urged peaceful dialogue and diplomatic engagement to resolve outstanding disputes. He invoked the words of Allama Iqbal, who foresaw the rise of Asia and the rise of China nearly a century ago, to frame Pakistan’s current diplomatic standing.
The Eurasian Security Forum drew some 200 international delegates from over 20 Eurasian countries. At the close of the event the Russian hosts asked Senator Mushahid to read the Final Declaration, which called for the establishment of a new global order based on justice and equality in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.
