The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training observed classroom activity at a National Commission for Human Development non-formal education centre in Bhara Kahu as part of efforts to strengthen foundational learning. Secretary Nadeem Mahbub watched instruction, spoke with teacher Maryam Imran and engaged 57 enrolled students to review how the Teacher Aid Kits are being used in daily lessons.
The visit examined how the Teacher Aid Kits support interactive and child-centered learning in non-formal and accelerated settings, with a particular focus on multigrade classrooms where one teacher manages learners of different ages and levels. MoFEPT has distributed 3,450 Teacher Aid Kits across Islamabad Capital Territory, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan to reach out-of-school children and strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy.
Each kit contains 17 educational items designed for hands-on use, including pocket boards and flashcards, character masks and handmade puppets, Snake and Ladder games and word-making puzzles, English and Urdu alphabet flashcards, number cards and math jigsaw puzzles, magic charts, science charts with simple experiment materials, and unit tens cards to support concrete learning of concepts.
During classroom observations the Secretary noted how storytelling, role play, educational games and visual aids from the Teacher Aid Kits were integrated into lessons to increase engagement and make learning inclusive. To support effective use, MoFEPT has run ICT-based orientation sessions for non-formal education teachers on activity-based methodologies and the practical deployment of these teaching resources in multigrade environments.
The Secretary praised the dedication of community-level non-formal education teachers and stressed the importance of consistent, effective use of the Teacher Aid Kits to improve student engagement and measurable learning outcomes. He was accompanied by Director General NCHD Ali Asghar and members of the NCHD team during the visit.
