Addressing international delegates at FAO’s 44th session, Mr. Hussain reaffirmed Pakistan’s determination to create sustainable agricultural systems capable of addressing poverty, malnutrition, and hunger. He emphasized the nation’s ongoing reform efforts aimed at modernizing agriculture through improved food safety standards, innovation, crop diversification, and the empowerment of smallholder farmers. These comprehensive initiatives are intended to establish robust, equitable, and nutritious food systems that foster sustainable livelihoods and long-term food security.
Minister Hussain highlighted food security and environmental sustainability as universal issues that demand collective international action. Stressing the value Pakistan places on global collaboration, he explained that cooperation, shared knowledge, and mutual learning from successful international practices underpin Pakistan’s agricultural development strategy. Pakistan remains committed to actively contributing to global governance strategies that build resilient and effective food systems.
During the conference, Minister Hussain congratulated the newly elected Chairperson and Vice Chairs of the FAO Council. He expressed confidence in the new leadership’s ability to facilitate member consensus, enhance coordination among governing bodies, and respond effectively to members’ evolving needs. Furthermore, he assured delegates of Pakistan’s unwavering support and constructive engagement in FAO governance activities.
Mr. Hussain acknowledged and thanked FAO, the World Food Programme (WFP), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) for their valuable support. In his concluding remarks, the Minister urged deeper international collaboration to overcome escalating global food system challenges. By uniting efforts and leveraging mutual strengths, the global community can build resilient agricultural and food systems that are productive, equitable, sustainable, and secure for future generations, he emphasized.
