ISLAMABAD, The two day 9th Ministerial Conference on Women of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation concluded in the federal capital on Monday, with Pakistan assuming the chair of the OIC Ministerial Conference on Women for the next two years.
The conference was addressed by Senate Chairman and former prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Federal Minister for Law and Justice and Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, Federal Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja, OIC officials and other foreign delegates.
Speaking at a press conference at the conclusion of the moot, along with OIC Assistant Secretary General Tariq Ali Bakhit, Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch and others, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar said Pakistan had taken over the chairmanship of the OIC Ministerial Conference on Women for the next two years.
The federal minister said the chairmanship had been formally handed over to Pakistan, reflecting the confidence of OIC member states in the country.
Tarar thanked the OIC General Secretariat, member states, partner countries, ministers, heads of delegations and other representatives for their active participation, which he said made the two day conference successful.
He said the concluding session approved the outcomes of the conference consultations, in which member states reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the economic, political and social empowerment of women in the Muslim world.
He said the participants expressed the resolve that women would be fully included in the development process so they could play their role alongside men in building balanced, prosperous and inclusive societies.
Highlighting the importance of technology, Tarar said special sessions during the conference focused on the opportunities and challenges of the digital age.
