LAHORE: Pakistani-American music producer Prem G is seeking to create a distinct identity in electronic music by blending modern house music with South Asian culture, melodies and emotions.
Born in Karachi and now based in the US state of Texas, Prem G is an electronic music producer, DJ, songwriter and composer. His work reflects the influence of both Pakistani and American cultures.
According to Prem G, his stay in the United States brought him closer to modern electronic and house music, while his connection with South Asian culture remains visible in the melodies and emotions of his music.
He has attempted to bring the two musical influences together in a style that South Asian youth in Pakistan, India and across the world can relate to. His music carries the energy of the global dance floor while also offering a glimpse of desi musical expression.
Prem G’s musical projects, including “Qalandar”, “Mera Pyar” and “Karachi”, feature South Asian musical elements presented in a modern electronic style. However, his aim is not limited to reworking old or well-known songs; he also wants to establish a unique electronic music identity for the future.
Prem G describes his musical philosophy as “Connecting Cultures Through Electronic Music”. He says music is a language that can connect people beyond the limits of geography and language.
His journey from Karachi to Texas is reflected in his music as a blend of two different cultures. Rather than separating his Pakistani and American identities, Prem G is making the influence of both cultures part of his artistic identity.
