ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami Islamabad emir Engineer Nasrullah Randhawa has expressed deep grief and concern over the tragic incident at PIMS Hospital and demanded a transparent and impartial inquiry into the matter.

Nasrullah Randhawa, along with Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan naib emir Liaqat Baloch, visited PIMS Hospital, condoled with the affected people and their families, and sought details of the incident from the hospital administration.

Speaking on the occasion, Randhawa said that such a tragic incident at a major public hospital like PIMS was a matter of serious concern. He said providing treatment and protection to the people was a basic responsibility of the state, but precious human lives had been lost due to poor administrative capacity and mismanagement in government institutions.

He said the matter could not be closed by simply declaring the incident an accident. He stressed that it was necessary to determine the real causes of the incident, identify where negligence occurred at the administrative level, and find out why rescue and fire brigade teams could not arrive on time.

The JI Islamabad emir demanded a high-level and impartial investigation into the incident. He said those responsible should be identified and proceeded against in accordance with the law, while effective measures should be taken to prevent such incidents in future.

Randhawa said the government made tall claims about good governance and provision of the best facilities to the public, but the conditions at PIMS were exposing those claims. He said the government should move beyond statements and meetings, take practical steps and answer the people.

Expressing heartfelt sympathy and condolences with the affected families, he said Jamaat-e-Islami stood with them in this hour of grief and would continue to raise its voice until action was taken against those responsible for the incident.
