ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has concluded its three-day National CME/CPD Capacity-Building Workshop titled “Designing High-Impact CME/CPD: From Concept to Completion”, held in Islamabad from August 27 to 29, 2026.
The workshop brought together institutional leaders, medical educationists, faculty members and representatives of medical and dental institutions from across the country. Its objective was to develop a shared understanding of a credible, sustainable and quality-assured national continuing medical education and continuing professional development system.
Parliamentary Secretary for National Heritage and Culture Ms Farah Naz Akbar attended the closing ceremony as chief guest. PM&DC President Prof Dr Rizwan Taj, PM&DC Registrar Brig Dr Rehan Naqvi, faculty members, participants and other senior officials were also present.
In his closing remarks, Prof Dr Rizwan Taj underlined the importance of CME/CPD in ensuring that healthcare professionals remain updated with advances in medical science and clinical practice. He reaffirmed PM&DC’s commitment to developing a CME/CPD system in line with best international practices.
He said the Council’s vision was to ensure that Pakistani doctors and dentists remain among the most up-to-date healthcare professionals in terms of knowledge, skills and professional practice.
Prof Dr Rizwan Taj also thanked Dr Natasha from Aga Khan University, who facilitated the three-day activity, for her contribution and expertise in guiding participants on effective CME/CPD design, implementation and evaluation.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms Farah Naz Akbar appreciated the PM&DC initiative and commended the vision and leadership of Prof Dr Rizwan Taj in strengthening the regulatory framework for medical and dental education and professional development.
In his closing remarks, Registrar PM&DC Brig Dr Rehan Naqvi acknowledged the vision and leadership of the PM&DC president and highlighted the milestones achieved by the Council during his tenure. He said the CME/CPD initiative was another significant step towards advancing the president’s vision, strengthening professional standards and promoting continuous learning and professional development among registered medical and dental practitioners.
The workshop covered the complete CME/CPD cycle, including identification of professional practice gaps and educational needs, development of measurable learning objectives, educational design, integrity and independence, evaluation of outcomes, governance, documentation, monitoring and quality assurance.
Participants shared their reflections and gave highly positive feedback, expressing interest in continued engagement with PM&DC and similar capacity-building activities in future. They particularly appreciated the practical orientation of the workshop and its focus on developing a sustainable and meaningful culture of continuous professional learning.
PM&DC reaffirmed that the initiative was part of its broader commitment to establishing a transparent, credible and internationally aligned CME/CPD framework to support lifelong learning, professional competence, improved patient care and global recognition of Pakistani medical and dental professionals.
