The Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council has paused fresh inspection applications for six months and revised its fee schedule.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council has stopped accepting fresh applications for inspection of nursing and midwifery institutions for six months and revised its fee schedule with immediate effect.

According to a notification dated October 13, no new inspection application will be accepted or processed during the six-month period. The council said the temporary restriction had been imposed to clear the backlog of pending inspection cases.

Nursing and midwifery institutions have been advised not to submit fresh applications, as any application received during this period will not be considered.

The council clarified that applications already submitted and awaiting decisions would continue to be processed under the applicable rules, regulations, policies and requirements. Fresh applications may be accepted after the six-month period, subject to clearance of the existing backlog and any further directions issued by the competent authority.

In a separate notification dated October 19, the council announced a revised fee schedule, replacing the previous rates with immediate effect. The decision was approved during the council’s fifth session of 2026, held on September 23.

Under the revised schedule, the application processing fee has been increased from Rs50,000 to Rs200,000. The inspection fee has been doubled from Rs250,000 to Rs500,000.

The fee for each degree programme has been raised from Rs200,000 to Rs500,000, while the fee for each diploma programme has been increased from Rs100,000 to Rs150,000.

The institute recognition fee has also been raised from Rs100,000 to Rs300,000. Recognition refers to the formal approval given to an institution by the council.

The new application processing fee is four times the previous amount, while the revised inspection fee is twice the old rate. The degree programme fee has increased by Rs300,000, and the institute recognition fee has gone up by Rs200,000.

The previous fee schedule listed charges of Rs200,000 for Master of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Post Registered Nursing and other degree programmes. It set fees of Rs100,000 for Lady Health Visitor, Community Midwife and Certified Nursing Assistant diploma programmes.

The former schedule also listed an enhancement fee of Rs300,000, an inspection fee of Rs250,000 and an application fee of Rs50,000.

The council has directed all concerned offices and institutions to follow the revised fee schedule. Copies of the notification have been sent to the federal health secretary, the Director of the Armed Forces Nursing Service at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, provincial health authorities, nursing directors, controllers, council members and the council’s finance and administration departments.

The council has also asked its management information system department to place the revised fee schedule on its website.

The six-month inspection restriction and the fee increase are separate decisions. While the inspection pause is intended to help the council deal with pending cases, the revised charges will apply immediately to the institutions and applicants covered by the new schedule.
