RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Rawalpindi district President Shaukat Ali Abbasi, General Secretary Ammar Mehdi Raja and Vice President Raja Mannan have demanded the immediate withdrawal of the increase in prices of petroleum products and relief for the poor.
In a joint protest statement issued from the party office, the PPP leaders said inflation, unemployment, loadshedding of electricity and gas, and the steep rise in petroleum prices had made life difficult for the people.
They criticised the PML-N government, saying its incompetence had added to the hardships of the poor. They said the people had been deprived of two meals a day and pushed towards extreme distress.
The PPP leaders said prices of food items, transport and ration had reached an unbearable level.
Shaukat Ali Abbasi said electricity was being made more expensive continuously under fuel adjustment, while the daily increase in prices of petroleum products was a highly cruel step.
Ammar Mehdi Raja and Raja Mannan said that instead of providing relief to the poor, the PML-N government was misleading the people. They claimed that petrol was being provided to the public at Rs140 above its actual price.
The party leaders said there was no sign of effective governance in the country and added that the PML-N was forcing the public to come out on the roads.
