Senator Nadeem Bhutto pledges support for Foreign Medical Graduates, urging PMDC clarity and parliamentary action to protect overseas-trained doctors.

Islamabad, October 2025 — Senator Nadeem Ahmed Bhutto held a follow-up meeting with Dr. Rafey Sher, who represents Foreign Medical Graduates, to address mounting concerns around recent Pakistan Medical and Dental Council policies. The discussion focused on the practical impact of regulatory inconsistency on doctors trained at recognised overseas institutions.

Senator Bhutto sharply criticised what he described as unjust and inconsistent actions by the PMDC, saying such measures unfairly penalise young professionals who completed their medical education abroad. He reiterated that the Pakistan Peoples Party remains committed to supporting the youth and will raise the matter at parliamentary levels to seek fair treatment for Foreign Medical Graduates.

Representative Dr. Rafey Sher welcomed the senator’s stance and praised the progressive vision of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, noting that clear political support can help open opportunities for the next generation of medical professionals. The dialogue highlighted the need for constructive engagement between regulators, legislators and FMG representatives to resolve current tensions.

Both sides expressed concern over a series of confusing and contradictory statements issued by the PMDC, which have created anxiety among candidates waiting for licensing and registration. They agreed that clarity, consistency and transparency from the Council are essential to protect standards while ensuring that Foreign Medical Graduates receive fair and timely decisions.

The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge from PPP leadership to stand by Foreign Medical Graduates and to press for legislative and institutional measures that ensure their voices are heard and rights safeguarded within Pakistan’s medical licensing framework.
