Senator Bilal Ahmed Khan Voices Strong Support for Foreign Medical Graduates; PPP Emerges as Leading Political Ally of FMGs
Islamabad, Pakistan —Senator Bilal Ahmed Khan of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has declared his full support for Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) following a detailed meeting with Dr. Rafey Sher and his team. The meeting was also attended by Senator Nadeem Ahmed Bhutto, who has been a consistent advocate for FMG rights in parliamentary and public forums. With these developments, the PPP has solidified its position as one of the strongest political supporters of the FMG community in Pakistan.
In a video message issued after the meeting, Senator Bilal Ahmed Khan expressed solidarity with FMGs and criticized the existing policies of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) that have left many qualified young doctors in limbo. He emphasized that Pakistani doctors who graduated from internationally recognized medical institutions should not be denied the opportunity to serve in their homeland.
“It is deeply regrettable that while unqualified quacks continue to practice freely across Pakistan, the PMDC places unnecessary restrictions on educated and competent doctors holding legitimate foreign degrees,” he remarked. The senator urged the authorities to introduce urgent reforms that would allow these graduates to contribute to Pakistan’s healthcare system rather than marginalizing them through bureaucratic hurdles.
Dr. Rafey Sher, leading the FMG delegation, welcomed the senator’s statement and lauded the PPP’s leadership for taking a principled stance in favor of young doctors. He noted that the increasing political and institutional recognition of FMGs marks a positive step toward resolving their long-standing challenges.
“PPP has always been a party of the people,” Dr. Rafey said. “It has shown a consistent commitment to empowering Pakistan’s youth and professionals. We are grateful to Senator Bilal Ahmed Khan and Senator Nadeem Ahmed Bhutto for their unwavering support during this critical period.”
Dr. Rafey further emphasized the need for cross-party consensus on this issue, urging all major political groups to stand united in resolving the PMDC policy crisis that affects thousands of Pakistani doctors trained abroad.
The FMG community expressed hope that collective political will and sustained dialogue would soon lead to policy clarity, fairness, and justice for all qualified medical graduates across Pakistan.
