KARACHI: SI Global Solutions and Dell Technologies have reaffirmed their commitment to accelerating digital transformation in Pakistan through cutting-edge technology solutions and products, taking their 10-year partnership to the next level.
The commitment was renewed at an event titled “Powering Possibilities Technologies”, held recently in Karachi.
Speaking on the occasion, SI Global Solutions Chief Executive Officer Dr Noman A. Said said Pakistan must move from being primarily a consumer of technology to becoming a developer and exporter of technology.
He said research and development needed to become a national priority, supported not only by funding but also by procurement policies that allowed locally developed technologies an opportunity to prove themselves at scale.
Dr Said said countries such as Singapore had built globally competitive technology ecosystems through sustained investment in research and development, industry collaboration and commercialisation. He added that Malaysia had introduced mechanisms that gave qualified locally developed R&D products priority in government procurement.
He said Pakistan’s public procurement rules also needed to evolve, as technology could not always be procured purely on the basis of the lowest price or traditional qualification criteria.
Procurement, he said, should recognise innovation, local intellectual property, R&D investment, cybersecurity, lifecycle value and technology transfer.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dell Technologies Country Manager Naveed Siraj said technology adoption was growing across Pakistan, while the rapid pace of technological advancement had made it increasingly important for businesses to select solutions that best suited their requirements.
He said compatibility between government policies and technology adoption at the local level was essential to fully benefit from emerging technologies and new business models in an era increasingly driven by technology and artificial intelligence.
Mr Siraj said demand for data storage was rising both globally and locally, while the application of artificial intelligence had become essential for processing raw data and converting it into structured information to support better business decisions.
He said Dell Technologies had been operating in Pakistan since 1989 and continued to maintain its presence in the country while scaling up its operations through dedicated partners such as SI Global Solutions.
Mr Siraj added that Dell Technologies was preparing to introduce new solutions, devices and applications in Pakistan to provide users with access to globally standardised technology, with the aim of empowering businesses and individuals.
