New report on Sikh Diaspora alleges Indian transnational repression and urges global scrutiny to protect diaspora rights and freedoms.

The Baku Initiative Group together with Sikh Federation International has published a 58-page report titled Beyond Borders that raises concerns about alleged transnational repression targeting the Sikh Diaspora. The document examines claims of intimidation, surveillance and pressure tactics directed at Sikh communities living abroad and presents detailed, fact-based accounts that the authors say indicate systematic mechanisms of coercion.

The report was researched and drafted by Prabjot Singh, legal counsel for the Sikh Federation International, with substantial support from both organisations. According to the authors, the evidence compiled in the report points to coordinated efforts by the Indian Government to influence and silence members of the Sikh Diaspora and other ethnic groups outside India.

Authors say the publication aims to draw international attention to the rights, freedoms and security of the Sikh Diaspora and to foster wider dialogue on protection of diaspora communities. The report calls for greater global awareness, stronger safeguards for civil liberties across borders and enhanced cooperation among states and human rights bodies.

A launch event held recently in Geneva brought together the Director General of the Geneva Press Club, experts in international law, human rights defenders and representatives of major media outlets including the BBC and AFP. Organisers said the Geneva gathering was intended to broaden engagement with international stakeholders and media on the issues raised in the report.

The findings are likely to be followed closely by audiences in Pakistan and the region, where discussions on diaspora protections and cross-border rights carry growing significance. The authors encourage policymakers, human rights organisations and media to review the report and consider measures to address the concerns it raises about transnational repression of the Sikh Diaspora.
