Jahangir Khan Tareen attended the closing ceremony of the 5th South Punjab Mathematics Contest organised by the Tareen Education Foundation in Lodhran and highlighted the critical role mathematics plays in building Pakistan’s IT and technology capacity.
He stressed that mathematics is the foundation of modern IT and technology, and only youth skilled in these areas can drive a revolution in the country’s digital economy. At the ceremony he distributed cash prizes and appreciation shields to the position-holding students, recognising their achievements and encouraging continued pursuit of STEM skills.
The delegation then toured the under-construction TICER Lodhran, which is being developed as South Punjab’s first modern IT institute. TEF CEO Akbar Khan briefed Mr Tareen on the layout and progress of the university’s blocks, the design of state-of-the-art IT labs, smart classrooms and a digital library, and the anticipated completion stages for different sections of the campus.
Once operational, TICER Lodhran is expected to provide thousands of students with access to advanced IT education and open new pathways for youth across South Punjab to participate in the digital economy. The project is being positioned as a regional hub for technology learning and skills development.
Mr Tareen also visited an art exhibition organised by students from TEF-supported schools, where he appreciated the creative artwork and design projects on display and praised the students for their talent and effort. The initiative and the contest together underline TEF’s focus on equipping young people with both technical and creative skills for the modern era.
