The China-Pakistan High-Quality Agricultural Cooperation Development Forum, held in Islamabad, emphasized mutual commitment to enhancing agricultural collaboration, industrial partnerships, and technology transfer between the two countries. Prominent officials discussed ongoing progress and celebrated recent achievements, including significant growth in bilateral agricultural trade and milestones in export agreements.

Delivering the keynote address at the forum, Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy, H.E. Mr. Shi Yuanqiang, emphasized China’s firm commitment to deepening agricultural cooperation with Pakistan. He expressed confidence that enhanced collaboration would lead to greater shared prosperity and sustainable development in the agriculture sector.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Waseem Ajmal Chaudhary, Federal Secretary for the Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFS&R), reaffirmed Pakistan’s determination to actively encourage public-private agricultural partnerships. He highlighted that Pakistan and China’s longstanding, time-tested friendship has consistently grown stronger through mutual trust, shared objectives, and a commitment to economic growth and prosperity.

During the forum, participants reviewed notable progress made under the first and second batches of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) agricultural projects. Discussions centered around fostering greater industry collaboration, increasing agricultural productivity, and encouraging technology transfer to modernize Pakistan’s agriculture sector toward higher levels of productivity and quality.

Significant milestones in Pakistan-China agricultural trade were celebrated at the event. Bilateral agricultural trade between Pakistan and China now surpasses US$1 billion annually, reflecting strong mutual economic engagement. Additionally, nine new protocols facilitating Pakistani agricultural exports to China have been signed over the past three years, significantly expanding Pakistan’s export capacity and market reach.

Furthermore, specific agricultural commodities witnessed remarkable growth in export volume. Total agricultural trade recently reached US$390 million, with sesame seeds alone surpassing the US$50 million milestone. Another notable development shared at the forum was Pakistan’s inaugural export of high-value-added buffalo dairy products to China in 2024, underscoring the diversification and value enhancement of Pakistani agricultural products.

The forum concluded on a reaffirmed mutual commitment from both Pakistan and China to continue building resilient, technology-oriented agricultural and industrial linkages. This ongoing collaboration aims to further strengthen agricultural productivity, industrial capability, and overall bilateral economic growth, effectively leveraging the opportunities presented by the CPEC initiative.
