OIC-COMSTECH and Huawei launch ICT Academy in Islamabad to accelerate digital skills with 5G, AI, Cloud and Cybersecurity certifications across OIC states.

The OIC Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (OIC-COMSTECH) and Huawei Technologies signed a Memorandum of Understanding and inaugurated the COMSTECH-Huawei ICT Academy at the OIC-COMSTECH Secretariat in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The newly opened ICT Academy is equipped with advanced digital learning infrastructure to enable virtual instruction, hands-on ICT training and real-time collaboration for students and professionals across the 57 OIC member states and five observers.

Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, attended as chief guest and described the initiative as a timely and strategic investment in the region’s digital future, highlighting its importance for strengthening Pakistan’s ICT ecosystem and broader capacity-building efforts across OIC member states.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH, said the MoU represents a transformative step toward achieving digital self-reliance in the OIC region, noting that the partnership leverages Huawei’s global expertise to help youth acquire cutting-edge skills and contribute to innovation-driven socio-economic development.

Ethan Sun, CEO of Huawei Pakistan, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to empowering youth through the new ICT Academy and cited long-term initiatives such as the Seeds for the Future programme as part of Huawei’s efforts to nurture digital talent, strengthen cybersecurity capabilities and support sustainable technological growth across OIC countries.

The ICT Academy will act as a central hub for blended learning and provide access to Huawei’s global training ecosystem. Under the partnership, specialised certifications will be offered in 5G, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing and Cybersecurity to help bridge the global talent gap and equip young professionals with industry-ready skills.

The inauguration concluded with a tour of the facility and live demonstrations of Huawei’s digital learning technologies and future-ready training modules. Ambassadors and senior diplomats from Somalia, Malaysia, Morocco, Mauritius, Azerbaijan, Algeria and Brunei Darussalam attended alongside representatives of various international and national organisations.
