Barrister Danyal Chaudhry has announced that cricket trials will be held on May 2 in Rawalpindi as part of the Punjab government’s efforts to promote sports and provide opportunities to youth. The trials are designed to identify talent purely on merit and open pathways for young players to progress to higher levels.
Speaking as the chief guest at the CM Punjab Inter-District Kabaddi Championship 2026 at ARL Hockey Ground, Morgah, Barrister Danyal said that following the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz the government is investing in world-class sports facilities to steer young people toward constructive pursuits. These cricket trials form a key element of that push to strengthen grassroots sport across the province.
He emphasized that the development of sports grounds brings positive social change and helps keep youth away from negative influences, noting that promoting sports is a critical need of the time. The announcement underlines a merit-based approach to selection at the local level.
Following the Inter-District Kabaddi Championship, the trials will produce a selected contingent to compete at the Punjab level: 10 players from Under-23, 2 from Under-19, and 4 from the Open category. Selected players will receive support from the Sports Board, including modern facilities, focused training, and guidance to prepare for national and international competition.
Barrister Danyal also congratulated the tournament organisers and praised the relevant association for promoting kabaddi. He observed that while sports were previously neglected, the current government is taking concrete steps to nurture talent at the grassroots and expand opportunities for young athletes across Punjab.
