Acting on confirmed intelligence, Bannu police launched a targeted operation in the Khashni Kala forests after District Police Officer Yasir Afridi received information that a suspect wanted in multiple murders was hiding in the area. The SDPO City and SHO City, accompanied by a police team, carried out a coordinated raid to apprehend the individual.
When officers moved to arrest the suspect, identified as Imran son of Inayatullah of Jaman Road, Khashni Kallah, he opened fire on the police party in an apparent attempt to flee. Bannu police returned fire and, following an exchange of gunfire, recovered the body of the suspect at the scene.
The suspect was wanted in connection with the killings of five people. Authorities say that two days earlier he had allegedly killed two labourer brothers and a child on Jaman Road, and that he was previously implicated in the murder of a woman and a relative. The investigations into these incidents remain ongoing.
Local residents had staged a protest after the recent killings, placing the bodies of the murdered brothers on the road near the DIG’s bungalow to demand swift arrest and justice. The public demonstration had increased pressure on law enforcement to act promptly.
The operation by Bannu police has been widely praised by citizens and social circles, who commended the timely and professional response led by DPO Yasir Afridi. Officials say follow-up inquiries and forensic procedures are underway as Bannu police continue their probe into the related murders.
