The Endocrinology Department at CDA Hospital organised a Thyroid Day program in Islamabad to raise awareness about thyroid disorders and the importance of early diagnosis, timely treatment and regular follow up. The initiative aimed to inform patients and the wider community about common symptoms, risk factors and practical steps for effective thyroid care.
The event took place under the supervision of Executive Director Dr. Muhammad Naeem Taj and Head of Endocrinology Dr. Sarwar Malik, and brought together the full endocrinology team, senior doctors, consultants and healthcare professionals along with members of the public. Specialists from Endocrinology, Medicine, Radiology, Psychiatry and Dermatology delivered focused presentations covering diagnosis, treatment options and preventive measures.
Thyroid Awareness messages at the event stressed that thyroid diseases are common yet frequently undiagnosed because symptoms are often mistaken for routine health issues. Dr. Sarwar Malik explained that thyroid conditions can affect people of all ages and may present with fatigue, weight changes, hair loss, mood disturbances, irregular menstrual cycles, neck swelling and difficulty concentrating. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment can significantly improve quality of life and reduce complications.
Senior participating doctors included Dr. Shazia Yousuf, Dr. Aziz-un-Nisa, Dr. Farhan Ali, Dr. Abid Saeed, Dr. Sarfaraz, Dr. Fatima Bilal, Dr. Shafique-ur-Rehman and Dr. Sheeba, all of whom emphasised seeking professional medical advice rather than relying on self-medication. The speakers urged anyone experiencing unexplained tiredness, weight fluctuations, palpitations, anxiety or persistent neck swelling to consult a qualified clinician for proper evaluation.
The experts also highlighted practical steps for managing thyroid conditions: maintain a balanced diet, follow prescribed medications consistently and attend scheduled follow up visits for monitoring. The talks underlined that most thyroid disorders can be successfully managed when identified early and treated appropriately, reinforcing the value of ongoing thyroid awareness in local communities.
The session concluded with an interactive question and answer segment where participants received tailored guidance and practical advice on prevention and care. CDA Hospital reiterated its commitment to promoting public health education and preventive healthcare through activities that empower residents of Islamabad to recognize symptoms early and seek timely medical attention.
Public health message highlighted at the programme noted that the thyroid plays a vital role in regulating energy, metabolism and heart function, and that recognising symptoms early along with regular monitoring and proper treatment are key to maintaining good thyroid health.
