Jamaat-e-Islami urges a nationwide movement to reclaim political authority and announces Ijtma e Aam in November to defend Pakistan's Islamic identity.

Dr Tariq Saleem, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab, urged a stronger movement against what he described as an outdated political system imposed on Pakistan while addressing party members in Sargodha. He said only an organised force such as Jamaat-e-Islami can restore the people’s right to rule and called for sustained grassroots mobilisation across the province.

Dr Tariq Saleem said the country needs a great revolutionary movement to reclaim political authority he believes was taken from the public. He criticised traditional parties, saying the PML-N and PPP have for years presented themselves as rivals while serving overlapping interests, and accused them of misleading voters.

Highlighting the party’s organisational reach, he described Jamaat-e-Islami’s membership and public committees nationwide as a milestone for addressing citizens’ problems. He promised the party would work alongside communities in a spirit of cooperation and partnership to tackle local and national challenges.

Dr Tariq Saleem announced that an Ijtma e Aam will be held in November to mobilise public sentiment against corrupt and outdated elements in governance, with the stated aim of freeing the nation from that system. He said the gathering will seek to translate public frustration into organised political action under the banner of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Reiterating the party’s commitment to protecting Pakistan’s Islamic character, he argued that the country’s identity is rooted in its founding ideology and warned that the ruling elite seek to erase that identity. He maintained that Pakistan has not experienced a true Islamic system in its 78-year history and criticised institutions — including courts, parliament and seats of power — for operating contrary to the orders of Allah and His Messenger.

Dr Tariq Saleem called for a mass rise to defend citizens’ rights and to revive genuine democracy. Local party figures addressing the convention included Owais Qasim Tala, Mian Inam-ul-Haq Qaiser, Dr Ghulam Murtaza, Aamir Mahmood Cheema and Pervaiz Asghar Cheema, who voiced support for the planned mobilisation and the party’s roadmap for public engagement.
